Conférence : Autonomic Computing, Human Identity and Legal Subjectivity: Philosophers of Law meet Philosophers of Technology. Reading Panel. (Brussels, 2009)

Autonomic computing and ambient intelligence raise a number of pertinent philosophical issues around human identity in relation to its human and nonhuman environment. These issues may find their litmus test in the implications for law and for constitutional self-government, or democracy. Discussions of such issues within legal philosophy and legal theory could benefit from explorations of the theme by philosophers of technology, and enrich current debates in the field of philosophy of technology. For this reason we bring together a roundtable of philosophers from both disciplines around the thematic of autonomic computing, human identity and legal subjectivity. Panel hosted by Mireille HILDEBRANDT and Antoinette ROUVROY.

workshop interdisciplinaire d'experts sur le thème "Learning a Foreign Language: Surveillance", organisé par le Berkman Center for Internet & Society de l'Université d'Harvard (www.cyber.law.harvard.edu) en collaboration avec le Research Center for Information Law de l'Université de St. Gallen (www.fir.unisg.ch) dans le cadre d'un programe de recherche trans-atlantique. Le but du workshop était de comprendre en profondeur, d'une manière à la fois conceptuelle et pratique, le phénomène complexe de la surveillance à l'intersection du droit, de la technologie, de l'économie, de la sociologie et de la psychologie. Antoinette Rouvroy introduisait et présidait la session sur les "coûts sociaux de la surveillance".
