How to detect and quantify multiple genes

Arrays are solid supports containing on their surface a series of discrete regions bearing capture nucleotide probes which are able to fix, by hybridisation, the corresponding target nucleotide sequences, either genes or part of the genome. If the targets are labelled with modified nucleotides during the amplification of the sequence, then the signal can be detected and measured at the binding location. Its intensity gives an estimation of the amount of target sequences initially present in the sample. This technology is used either for gene expression analysis or for molecular diagnosis when the genome of the organism is detected.
