Welcome to the Homepage of GermAN, the alumni association of Namur University that brings together our former students in Philologie germanique or (for more recent generations) Langues et literatures modernes: orientation germanique. “What’s in a name?,” Shakespeare would have wondered, for, throughout the various changes of names and programmes, our basic commitment has essentially remained the same for more than four decades. We aim for the best possible teaching, based on state-of-the-art research, and in a spirit of social commitment and absolute respect for the individual student.

GermAN aims at connecting alumni to their former University. But we also want to connect different generations of germanistes to one another. What has become a memory of the past (a happy one, we trust) for our alumni, is the present continuous for our current students. And it is a future yet to happen for generations to come. This site is thus our own “pacte de solidarité entre les generations”. We want to keep older memories alive and pass them on, but also inform yesterday’s students about what is happening on our campus today. Furthermore, tomorrow’s students – today’s rhétoriciens – can learn from their many predecessors what a wonderful range of future careers a degree in Germanic languages can prepare them for.
