Within the department of Biology, the URBE (Research Unit in Environmental and Evolutive Biology) approaches living organisms (animals and plants) as a whole, with a special interest for aquatic environments. The main directions of research are the analysis of physiological and biochemical responses to environmental conditions, and the ecology of freshwater ecosystems. Research topics range from the examination of molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying environmental adaptations, to the study of aquatic ecosystem functionning. The research unit benefits from the complementary inputs from the laboratory of comparative biochemistry and physiology, and the unit of freshwater ecology (aka UNECED).
