French courses
This French as a foreign language course is intended for the ERASMUS students at the University of Namur.
This French as a foreign language course is intended for the exchange students at the University of Namur.
General information
In order to help you feel more at ease in French, the "Ecole des langues vivantes" (ELV) of the University of Namur organises half-yearly modules of French expression.
These courses are intended for the students who already acquired the elementary notions of comprehension and expression in that language.
Before coming to Namur, it is strongly recommended to develop some indispensable reflexes which will improve your understanding and enrich your vocabulary ; for example, you can :
- Record extracts of French films (in original version with subtitles) and listen to them several times.
- Combine the listening of certain French programmes with the reading of the subtitles of the teletext.
- Read documents drafted in French which are translated in your mother tongue (French novels, tourist folders on your country, etc.).
- Note in a pad all the words and expressions which seem useful to you and memorize them at lost moments.
Furthermore, on your arrival in Namur you will find in the ELV Multimedia Centre (Arts Faculty, ground floor) several hours of recorded audio and video material in French with transcription and the English translation of the difficult words.
So, individually you can quickly improve your understanding of spoken French by comparing your perception of the language with the transcribed text.
The access to the Multimedia Centre is free of charge.
By these initiatives, we hope to accelerate your integration in our university community and to facilitate your stay in Namur.
Registration
The registration must be taken by means of the application form for exchange students.
This registration will be passed on to the ELV. Additional information : Multimedia Center.
These courses are spread over 10 weeks per semester, at the rate of 2 hours a week.
For the ERASMUS students, the possible courses fee will be taken in charge by the ERASMUS programme.
The deadline for registration is fixed on May 15, for the first semester and on November 15 for the second semester.
Organisation
At the beginning of the semester, a placement test distributes the students in three levels :
- The first level is geared towards acquisition of the necessary tools to expression (pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary).
- The second level helps you strengthen the elements needed for basic expression whereas the third level aims at perfecting the expression (for the students for whom the basic expression is not a problem anymore).
- The aim of third level is to improve your French expression (for students who have no basic problem in French speaking language).
The placement test and the courses are organised by the ELV. The practical information will be posted in your faculty at the beginning of each semester.
Placement test for the French courses of the first semester: on September 25, 2012 at 6.10pm (the local will be confirmed).
