The Laboratory of Database Applications Engineering (LIBD, 1984) develops models, techniques, methods and tools that support the processes of Information System Engineering. Beyond database analysis and development, that are now standard processes, the LIBD contributes to mastering complex data-related processes such as reverse engineering, maintenance, évolution, migration, conversion and integration concerning any kind of data: COBOL files, IMS, CODASYL and relational databases, object-oriented and object-relational databases, XML documents, etc. The LIBD also explores technological and methodological aspects of specialized data such as temporal databases, active databases and statistical databases. It also takes part in the web applications field as well as in the Semantic Web.
Besides its scientific activities, the laboratory has developed important activities and material to help companies and administrations master their data engineering processes. For this objective, the LIBD proposes technology and methodology seminars, self-study manuals, case studies. We regularly carry out consultancy projects with companies, specially in reverse engineering, reengineering and migration.
